About This Event
Big-city teenager Ren McCormack moves from Chicago to the small, conservative town of Bomont, expecting a simple high school adjustment. Ren is stunned to discover the town council, heavily influenced by the powerful local preacher Reverend Shaw Moore, has entirely outlawed rock music and dancing. Refusing to sit on the sidelines, Ren teams up with a lovable local country boy named Willard and the preacher’s own fiercely defiant daughter, Ariel. Beyond the high-energy dance breaks, the story delivers a deep, moving conflict about a town trying to heal from a past tragedy through restriction, while the youth are fighting for freedom, self-expression, and the right to feel alive.
You will hear explosive, live renditions of Top 40 anthems like "Footloose," "Holding Out for a Hero," "Let's Hear It for the Boy," and the gorgeous ballad "Almost Paradise".
Experiencing this classic story inside a fully re-imagined early 19th-century venue in downtown Martinsville elevates the nostalgic, small-town magic of Bomont right in your own backyard.
Please join us for a special screening of the 1980s classic Footloose with special host, film historian Justin Rawlins. The event kicks off at 7pm with special movie material curated by Dr. Rawlins, followed by an introduction to the Kevin Bacon starrer. Footloose will begin at 7:30pm.
Justin Rawlins is a film historian, Martinsville native, and professor of media studies at Ontario Tech University in Toronto, Canada. He is the author of the book Imagining the Method.
