Do not Omit the Obit: Indianapolis Obituaries Between Decades
Thursday, January 29th
6 PM, Gothic Chapel
Tickets: $10 in advance; no ticket sales at the door
Obituary serve as cultural artifacts that reflect societal norms, values, and ways that communities remember and honor their deceased community members. By exploring the evolution and transformation of obituaries in Indianapolis through the years, Madeline Young will explore the ways community structures have changed, social relationships, and the impact of technology on memorializing the death of an individual. Understanding these changes help us appreciate how cultural remnants like obituaries adapt to societal changes and can serve as a reflection of our values and identities. This is important for preserving the history and heritage of a community such as Indianapolis.
Tickets are $10. Speaker Series is held in our Gothic Chapel, reached through our 34th Street Gothic Gate entrance at 3402 Blvd. Place, Indpls. Upon arriving through the Gothic Gate off of 34th Street, follow the white-dashed line on the road, straight ahead, pass the fountain, up the hill to the Gothic Chapel.
