About This Event

Gain a deeper appreciation for the stone architecture, monuments, and artwork of Crown Hill Cemetery in this hands-on soapstone carving workshop led by our artist-in-residence, Michael Moskaliuk. Inspired by the wildlife of Crown Hill Cemetery, guests will create their own finished stone sculpture, choosing to carve either a butterfly, hawk, or owl.


The workshop fee includes a pre-cut stone, carving rasp, two sheets of sandpaper, and tung oil—everything needed to complete your sculpture. Carving will take place outdoors using shallow water bins for easy cleanup, so guests are encouraged to dress comfortably for both the weather and hands-on artmaking.

PLEASE NOTE: All stone creature selections (butterfly, hawk, or owl) will be on a "first come, first serve" basis.

Ages 12 and over only; under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.

Workshop costs:

$60 per ticket (includes all fees and supplies)


Workshop duration- 1.5 - 2 hours



LOCATION OF WORKSHOP: The Waiting Station (large red-brick building), located right inside the Gothic Gate entrance off of 34th Street. Be sure to use this specific address for directions: 3402 Blvd. Place, Indpls, 46208.

There is free public parking available around the Waiting Station, and public restrooms available inside the Waiting Station.
